How to Integrate a Visa Account Updater Service Into Your Payment Gateway

Visa Account Updater is a service designed to reduce the frequency and severity of declines and transaction interruptions due to changes in cardholder account information, such as expiration date or new card number. It can also be used to prevent chargebacks from invalid or expired cards.

Declines and service interruptions are a pain for both customers and merchants, so it’s important to find ways to avoid them whenever possible. This is especially true for subscription sales, where customer account credentials change frequently and can cause cascading impacts on recurring payments.

One way to avoid these problems is by integrating an account updater service into your payment gateway. Some gateways offer this functionality automatically, while others partner with third-party providers. Contact your gateway partner for pricing details, questions or to add the service to your account.

The service works by submitting daily updates to the card networks for each customer card account. This takes time, and some card networks may not return updated information for up to five days.

When we receive these updates, they are processed and we send them to you for review in the Control Panel. You can also receive notifications via a callback URL if you want to view these results without opening the Spreedly dashboard.

In addition to the Control Panel, you can also check account updates by webhook, which links to a CSV file that contains all vaulted payment methods that have been updated within 24 hours of the webhook being sent. This is a great way to keep an eye on your Account Account updater service  activity.

To use the Account Updater report, add a callback URL to the appropriate environment where you store your payment methods. This will trigger a POST request that will push a list of transactions that were successfully updated to the desired destination.

The Account Updater report will display the date of the update, the reason for the update and whether it was successful or not. You can also configure callbacks to push the report to a location of your choice.

For more granular controls, you can also enable Account Updater at the environment level. However, enabling the feature at this level will affect all environments that have eligible card accounts, regardless of which ones you choose to exclude from being sent for update.

When a customer’s credit card is updated with an expiration or new number, it can have cascading effects on their recurring billing and automatic renewals. These changes can result in service interruptions, declined transactions, and other issues that can negatively impact customer satisfaction.

To get the most out of account updater, you should always have a strong understanding of how it works and why it’s so valuable to your business. This will help you promote the service to your customers, which can be a powerful motivator.

For merchants that rely on subscription billing, an easy-to-use account updater can be a big boost to their customer satisfaction and their bottom line. It’s particularly useful for preventing recurring chargebacks on invalid or expired cards. Keeping card credentials updated can also prevent the loss of valuable customer data, so it’s worth adding an account updater to your shopping cart if you sell subscriptions or a subscription-based product.
